"My vacation in the white valleys of St. Annadal". - Charles Eyck

Not a real vacation: Although the word "vacantie" (vacation) is used, the subtitle and illustration are telling: "from May 2 to May 27, 1980". This is actually a hospital stay.

St. Annadal: This refers to the former Sint Annadal Hospital in Maastricht (now partly the courthouse and Maastricht University). Eyck was admitted here in May 1980, a few years before his death in 1983, already at an advanced age at the time.

The "white valleys": This is a poetic and perhaps somewhat ironic metaphor by the artist for the white, sterile corridors, walls, and sheets of the hospital.
