For those unfamiliar with him: Funs van Grinsven was a true Venlo jack-of-all-trades. He was a singer, poet, composer, playwright, and actor.

  • The Venlo Anthem: Funs, suffering from homesickness abroad at the time, wrote the well-known song "Venlo, staedje van lol en plezeer", which is considered by every Venlo resident to be the unofficial anthem of the city.

  • Carnival & Culture: In 1938, he was Prince Funs I of the renowned carnival society Jocus. For decades, he played a leading role in the Venlo Revue and performed well into old age (accompanied, among others, by the legendary pianist Glenn Corneille).
