Toon Kortooms (1916–1999): Kortooms was a natural storyteller, born in North Brabant (Deurne). He became immensely popular with his books, almost all of which are set in the Peel, the border region between North Brabant and Limburg. His most famous masterpiece is undoubtedly Beekman en Beekman.

Collected stories: This particular book is an anthology. It compiles his finest short stories, anecdotes, and sketches. The stories are characterized by gentle humor, a touch of irony, colorful village characters, and a deep love for the simple, Burgundian rural life of the 20th century.
