On October 18, the French book Le Petit Prince will be released in the Venlo dialect, 't Klein Prinske.
Former French teacher, Bas Vissers, has translated the book into the Venlo dialect. Bas hopes to raise the profile of the Venlo dialect with this, as it is a fact that fewer and fewer people speak the authentic dialect, and if we do nothing, it may have almost completely disappeared in 50 years.
The book therefore rightly begins with the catchy saying: All big people were once children (But there are very few who remember that). As a board member of Veldeke, Bas Vissers has been committed to preserving the Venlo dialect for a long time.
For orders of Le Petit Prince, email: Venloosprinske@gmail.com
The book will be available from October 18 at Boeken-Plein, among other places, and costs 19.95.
Boeken-Plein also has a large assortment of books about Venlo, including
The Venlocolopedie, Blerickclopedie, and Tegelenclopedie, which make nice gifts for Sinterklaas or Christmas; the books are new and cost 17.95.
